Akeredolu cautions residents on burning of tyres on roads

Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has cautioned residents to stop dumping refuse, having parties, spilling petroleum products or burning tyres and other items on roads.
Akeredolu gave the warning on Thursday in Akure while flagging off the construction of three major  road projects.

The roads include the Akure- Idanre Road, Spur to Oke-Iya Road and Igisogba Road.

The governor frowned at residents’ habits of seeing roads as refuse dumps, cutting roads indiscriminately and converting them to party event centres.

“These undesirable habits of some residents can no longer be tolerated as they reduce the value of the infrastructure.
“Let me stress that the roads do not belong to government, they belong to all of us and we must protect them,” he said.
Earlier, Oba Frederick Aroloye, the Owa of Idanre, had commended Akeredolu for the construction of the 16.75 km road as an alternate route to the ancient town.
He, however,  urged the state government to complete the remaining eighty five metres on the road to link Yaba axis of the town.
