3 men docked over alleged possession of dangerous weapons

The Police on Tuesday, arraigned three men in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged possession of dangerous weapons.

Kareem Gideon, 23, Mohammed Adamu, 20 and Justin Akasin, 23, are facing a four-count charge of possession of dangerous weapons, breach of public peace, unlawful assembly and possession of Indian hemp.

Gideon, Adamu and Akasin, all pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendants and others still at large, committed the offences on Aug. 6, at Agege area of Lagos.

Perezi said that the trio were caught with axes, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, with the intention to carry out nefarious acts that could cause mayhem in the community.

He said that they were also in possession of an unlawful substance, suspected to be Indian hemp.

The prosecutor said that the defendants also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breakdown of law and order in Agege and its environs.

“They were in an unauthorised assembly, and tagged themselves as members of an unlawful society called `Awawa’, with the intention to terrorise the community,” he said.

Perezi said the offences contravened sections 42(a), 44(1) and 51, of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015

The Magistrate, Mrs O.M Ajayi, granted the defendants a N200,000 bail each, with two sureties each in like sum.

Ajayi adjourned the case until Sept. 29, for mention. (NAN)
