Oyo govt to enforce copyright laws

The Oyo State Government says it will ensure the enforcement of copyright laws in the state.

This is contained in a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information, Mr Wasiu Olatunbosun, on Monday in Ibadan.

The commissioner who said that the state would go hard on piracy disclosed this when Mrs Bisi Ogundiran, the South-West Zonal Manager of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, visited his office.

Olatunbosun, however, asked for the collaborative support of the commission in order to put a stop to the menace of piracy in the state.

“The state will be glad to deploy different strategies both online and in physical space to ensure that pirates stopped reaping from where they do not sow.

“Oyo State Government is open to collaborations with private and public establishments.

” The Oyo State Government under the leadership of Gov. Seyi Makinde is committed to improving the economic situation of the state.

“And one of such is this kind of enforcement and we are going to do that in all nooks and crannies of the state,” he said.

Olatunbosun said that the state was gradually becoming a hub for entertainment industry, therefore it would do everything possible to fight piracy.

“We are aware that entertainers and authors lose billions of naira to piracy annually, leaving them at the mercy of philanthropists when they need help. This, we shall put a stop to,” he said.

Responding, Ogundiran said that the commission was willing to collaborate with the state government in waging war against pirates.

“With the support of Oyo State Government, it will be easy for us to begin to address and bring down the piracy level,” she said. (NAN)
