Motorcyclist in court over alleged theft of plasma television

A 30-year-old motorcyclist, Odesanmi Bode, was, on Tuesday, arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun over allegations of theft a plasma television.

The defendant, ASP Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb. 26, around 12 pm. at Ita-Osa area, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendant unlawfully broke and entered into the dwelling house of one Dasola Oladipupo, with intent to steal.

He added that the defendant stole one LG plasma television, valued at N50,000, property of Oladipupo.

The prosecutor said that the defendant unlawfully damaged the burglar-proof of the window and door of the house, situated at Ita-Osa area, valued at N20,000, property of Oladipupo.

He stated further that the defendant was in unlawful possession of a deck and iron rod, which, upon enquiries, he could not give satisfactory account of how he came about them.

Osanyintuyi said that the offences contravened Sections 412, 430 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge of breaking, entering, stealing and damaging.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Okoh Wonder, applied for bail for the defendant in the most liberal term, pledging that his client would not jump bail, but would provide reliable sureties.

Magistrate A. A. Ayeni granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Ayeni added that the sureties must swear to affidavits of means and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He said that the addresses of the sureties must be verified by the prosecutor, while they must produce three recent passport photographs each.

The case was adjourned till March 18, for hearing.
