Lawyer writes AGF, seeks trial of civil servant for misleading Justice Ministry

A constitutional lawyer and human rights activist, Mr. Victor Giwa, has petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, demanding the immediate trial of a civil servant for allegedly misleading the Federal Ministry of Justice.

Giwa, alleged that the civil servant, Mrs Asabe Waziri, who is a staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, gave a false information that misled the Justice Ministry to file a N130million fraud charge against his client, Mr. Cecil Osakwe.

He told the AGF that the NNPC staff falsely alleged that his client, Osakwe, who is the Managing Director of Abeh Signatures Limited, fraudulently collected the sum of N130m from her for a choice property in the Maitama district of Abuja.

Insisting that such transaction never took place, Giwa, urged the AGF to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter and equally punish staff of the Justice Ministry that have been used to harass and intimidate his client.

The petition, a copy of which was sighted by Vanguard on Thursday, read in part: “It will be invidious and odious to speculate that Ms Asabe Waziri in conjunction with her cohorts in the Ministry of Justice are using the Ministry of justice to pursue her personal vendetta against our Client all in a bid to embarrass and damage our client’s hard earned reputation.

“However, we are fully aware that you will not allow your office to be used as an instrument of settling personal scores, we further believe you will take the appropriate steps when such anomalies are brought to your attention.

“We therefore appeal to you that you do not allow Asabe Waziri with her accomplices to abuse the office of the Attorney General of the Federation by using it to continue to harass and intimidate honest citizens who are using their hard earned resources to provide the much needed employment to Nigerians.

“We further appeal and demand the following: The withdrawal of the frivolous and baseless charges against our client.

“Thorough investigation of the incident with a view to punish the perpetrators and for Asabe to be prosecuted for giving false information to the Ministry.”
