ISWAP Insurgents Launch Audacious Day Time Attack In Borno

Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents have launched an audacious day time attack on Saturday targeting the garrison town of Damasak in Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.

HumAngle understands that the attack in Damasak, close to the shores of Lake Chad is intense as the insurgents are attempting to gain access. Damasak, near Nigerian border with the Niger Republic, is about 180 kilometres Northwest of Maiduguri, Borno State capital.

The current attack on the town is at least the sixth security incident and attack by ISWAP within weeks, targeting the strategic garrison town and humanitarian hub.

Army Super Camp troops backed by the Air Force have been able to thwart most of the attacks, although ISWAP has gained access into the town in the past, destroying humanitarian vehicles while  targeting the military base.

The condition of humanitarian actors and civilians in the main town of Mobbar Local Government Area is currently unknown and the situation is fluid.
