Chude Regains Freedom, Tenders Apology To Emeka Offor

Popular Twitter influencer, Chude Nnamdi with Twitter handle @chude__, has regained freedom after 6 days in police custody.

Chude was arrested in Onitsha, Anambra State on Saturday, March 18, 2023, during the governorship and house of assembly election.

He was later taken to Abuja for questioning.

Chude’s arrest sparked outrage on social media.

Many people including former Education Minister, Oby Ezekwesili called for his immediate release.

Cybercrime

There were speculations that the Anambra state governor, Charles Soludo was behind the arrest.

But the state governor through his media aide released a statement denying the claims, stating that he had no hand in Chude’s arrest.

However, the Nigeria Police Force in a statement by its spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi confirmed Chude’s arrest.

According to the statement, Chude was being investigated by the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre, Abuja, for cyber-stalking, over a petition about his activities on social media.

His action contravenes the provision of Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 and other criminal laws.

The Apology

After his release on Friday, Chude took to his Twitter handle to thank everyone for calling for his release.

He shared a video apologizing to  Nigerian entrepreneur, Emeka Offor, for posting an unverified claim about him.

In his apology video, Chude said, ‘’I want to apologise to Sir Emeka Offor over the tweet I made. As at the time I made the tweet it was unverified and it wasn’t to malign his name in anyway.
