Army investigating the alleged shooting of civilian to death by soldier in Abia

The Army has said it is investigating the alleged shooting of a civilian in Ovim Isuikwuato, Abia State by a soldier.

A source at the 14 Brigade Ohafia told Newsmen that the incident came to the Brigade as a shock.

The source which pleaded for anonymity said the Army authorities would launch investigation into the incident with a view to bringing the soldier involved to book.

A soldier attached to a top military officer was said to have shot one Chinonso Obasi to death at Amune Community in Ovim Isuikwuato on Monday, January 3rd.

The ugly incident according to reports, happened at the popular Oriendu Market in Ovim.
Eye witness account has it that trouble started when the deceased was ordered to vacant his seat at a drinking bar for the trigger happy orderly.

The deceased was said to have ignored the order to relinquish his seat for the soldier who was said not to be in military uniform.

Irked by the refusal of the deceased to comply with the order, the soldier was said to have shot the victim immediately resulting to his instant death.

It is not clear if the soldier was drunk at the time of the incident but the sad incident has thrown the community into panic.
