Armed Group Attack Police Headquarters In Southeast, Raze Building, Vehicles

An armed group Monday, April 19, attacked the Zonal Police Headquarters, Zone 13 in Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra, Southeast Nigeria setting buildings and vehicles ablaze during the attack.

Eyewitnesses told HumAngle that two unidentified persons were feared dead during the early morning attack, which comes barely a week after governors in the region set up a security outfit named Ebube Agu to address growing insecurity in the Southeast.

The Zonal Police Headquarters, Zone 13 is in charge of Anambra and Enugu states’ commands.

HumAngle learnt that there were heavy gunshots at the police headquarters before the offices and vehicles were set ablaze. It was however not clear the number of casualties on the side of the police and the attackers.

The motive for the attack was unknown as of the time of filing the report. It appears to be a continuation of the spate of attacks on security agents and formations in the Southeast which had resulted in the death of personnel and the destruction of property.
