The assailants ambushed the Senator’s convoy and opened fire on his cars but the senator managed to escape the attack unhurt. Some police operatives and aides of the lawmaker were killed in the attack.

Reacting to the attack in a statement by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, IPOB distanced itself from the deadly attack, saying that any attempt to link the group to the incident is wickedness.

The  group described the attack as barbaric, shocking and unwarranted, stressing that the attack was too painful and strange to Ndigbo and has never happened before in the history of Igboland.

IPOB has vowed to expose the people behind the deadly attack, saying that it is on the trail of the perpetrators and will soon make their identities known.

The statement read: “The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has condemned in strong terms, the barbaric and wicked attack on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and other individuals in Enugu Ukwu in Njilkoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, which was said to have claimed the lives of over three Policemen and three civilians.”
